LEADERSHIP SUPPORT

Bloom understands how critical the roles of leaders and board members are to the health of an organization. Through our work with organizations of all sizes, across the education and nonprofit sectors, we have developed an array of tools and guidance that offer unique insights and best practices to support and improve performance of these essential roles. Whether you are a new or seasoned leader, a small or large board of trustees, or your organization is experiencing a period of transition, we would love to help.

  • Bloom supports leadership to manage their teams and organization more effectively through:

    • data-driven decision-making,

    • stakeholder engagement,

    • targeted professional development, and

    • coaching around organizational dynamics and change management

  • Bloom helps organizations govern better by developing board identity and improvement plans.

Utilizing our customizable board self-assessment survey assessing your board’s alignment with governance best practices, Bloom designs and facilitates board engagement sessions that lead board members through a process of reflection and goal-setting.

Findings and workshop outputs can inform the executive committee on priorities for board development in the months and years ahead.

  • Change management factors into almost every project Bloom does, and we’ve honed our change management framework to help leaders understand where pain points may occur and how to anticipate and navigate through them to achieve your desired outcomes.

  • Bloom’s decision rights tool helps leaders and board members clarify who does what in decision-making. Through a clear matrix of key functions and roles, we help you articulate how decisions should be initiated, informed, and approved, giving you a shareable, updatable tool to support alignment across roles and functions.

  • Sometimes a structural revamp is necessary to optimize team performance. When it’s time to do a deep investigation and realignment of roles and departments, we engage a RACI process to inform our advising and change management work with leadership. Successful RACI charting often leads to updated job descriptions, which Bloom can also help create.

  • Need to articulate priorities and key tasks for the year ahead? Bloom can apply a compact version of our rigorous approach to strategic planning to help you create an annual plan that keeps you moving forward with clarity and confidence.

“Through our deep work together, Bloom became trusted advisors and confidantes.

They were exactly what I needed as a leader, and their partnership with me at this critical stage of our organization's growth will benefit our school for a long time to come.”

Board Governance

Charter School

A K-12 charter school in Philadelphia completed a strategic plan with Bloom which included a governance component to create a “plan within the plan” specifically for the board.

To support the plan’s development, Bloom administered a board self-assessment that gathered input from all board members about the board’s functionality across key domains, as well as surveyed members for the skillsets they bring  to their board service.

Bloom facilitated a review of this data during the board’s annual retreat and guided members in the creation of a governance plan to support the board with strategic prioritization, recruitment efforts, and fundraising goals.

Change Management

Nonprofit

A neighborhood-based nonprofit hired Bloom to research and develop a “place-based” community change strategy.

Bloom led a robust, three-month research phase including interviewing myriad community members and content experts, crafting an in-depth analysis to understand the neighborhood history and demographic profile, and developing asset maps of the investment area in housing, education, and community wellness.

Bloom supported leadership in developing a mission and vision for impact and corresponding investment blueprint to guide further planning and implementation.

Org Identity Work

School District

A school district’s Office of Teaching and Learning partnered with Bloom to lead a process for creating a research-based vision and codified approach to their coaching program.

After conducting a comprehensive research review of coaching models and evidence-based practices, Bloom guided client representatives to draft and finalize elements of an overarching instructional coaching framework including a purpose statement, definition, values, and theory of action.

To operationalize this work, Bloom designed an instructional coaching handbook for aligning instructional coaches to this unified approach.
