Katy is committed to supporting organizations focused on social and systematic change. With over 18 years in the education sector, she brings a wide range of experience including classroom teaching, administration, and systems-level academic and operational leadership. Her areas of expertise include special education, reading intervention, educational technology, and operational compliance. She has a passion for problem solving and designing customized tools, resources, and processes that honor and empower educators and leaders.

With Bloom, Katy has led projects focused primarily on schools and education-related nonprofits including the School District of Philadelphia, Penn Alexander School, Wissahickon Charter School, New Foundations Charter School, Delaware Valley Friends School, KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools, Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders, Hebrew Public Charter Schools for Global Citizens, Healthy NewsWorks, and SEEQS Charter School. Through her work with our clients, she has evolved a keen sense of tool usability and user interface and continues to support Bloom and in the realm of human-centered design and user experience with our processes and deliverables.

Katy began her career in education as a Teach For America corps member with the School District of Philadelphia, followed by six years at KIPP Philadelphia Charter School as a special education teacher and leadership team member overseeing all student support services and interventions. As KIPP expanded in Philadelphia, she founded the role of Regional Director of Special Education and helped to grow KIPP’s academic program to serve over 400 students with IEPs across five KIPP schools in the city. In this central office position, she acquired first-hand experience with multiple aspects of K-12 school design including operations, curriculum design, charter management, and strategic planning.

Katy holds an MS in Education from St. Joseph’s University with dual certification in Elementary Education and Special Education and a BA in Communication from Stanford University. She is the proud parent of two young girls who constantly reinforce her commitment to be a part of the movement to ensure all children have access to a quality education and choice-filled lives.
